Prayer in the Aftermath of Natural Disasters

Heavenly Father,  floods, hurricanes, and tornadoes leave your people trembling in fear.  The very sky seems to be their enemy, gathering whirling winds and then hurling that power at homes, churches, and schools, pouring down huge quantities of water that collapse buildings and drag people into raging currents.  Nothing feels safe the them anymore.  The electricity is out; they have no shelter, and little food.  They wait in lines for clean water; disease spreads through the community.  And the water continues to rise.  They wonder if you did this to them, God.  Have you withdrawn you love for them?

They're exhausted.  They work from dawn till dark filling sandbags to hold back the water, then cleaning, salvaging . . . crying.  They're worried about everything, God:  jobs, loved ones, where they will live.  They've lost everything --- except you.

Reach out to them, Lord.  Assure them of your love.  Show them you are there to rescue them.  You haven't left them; you're working beside them, surrounding weary hands with your hands, lifting tired arms when shovels and brooms seem too heavy.  You give strength.  You give the ability to endure this trial.  Help them to reach out and accept your help. Show them that nothing can separate them from your love.  With you beside them they will make it through this victoriously, and you'll build godly character through suffering.

Amen

"And I am convinced that nothing

can ever separate us from his love.

Death can't, and life can't.

The angels can't, and the demons can't.

Our fears for today, or worries about tomorrow,

and even the powers of hell can't keep God's love away."
