Prayers . . . on living successfully

A PRAYER FOR STRENGTH IN OLD AGE

Gracious heavenly Father,

Give strength for this season of my life.

Lord, give zest, energy enough to hoot and holler,

to relinquish and laugh,

to run in the spirit even if I do not run in the flesh.

Give continued willingness to sweat for you.

Perfect new passions in me; enlarge my vision;

then press me to labor's door

until it moves, until the door swings wide and

it is finished, again, for you.

Do not let me flag;

do not let me fail simply because my hair is gray

and my muscles have grown flabby.

Help me plow and sow and harvest until sunrise

when you pluck me away upward.

Amen

No one whose hope is in you will ever be put to shame.
