Prayers . . . on endings

PRAYER FOLLOWING THE DEATH OF A PET

Dear Heavenly Father, I know there are a lot of people who wouldn't understand the grief I am feeling over the loss of my beloved pet, but you do.  You watch over all animals.  Matthew says you see every little sparrow -- so I know you loved my pet too.

You created animals for our pleasure . . . and she certainly gave me pleasure.  She filled many of my lonely moments.  She always accepted me without complaint.  She never noticed my flaws.  Sometimes she made me laugh. She would press up against me and give me physical affection I don't always get from people.

I know your Word doesn't say if the spirits of animals ascend to heaven or not, so I won't know for a long time if she is waiting for me there.  Even if she's not, I want to thank you for letting me enjoy her for this brief time on earth. I believe my grief is a tribute to her importance in my life.  Please comfort me and heal my pain.  In Jesus' name.

Amen

Look at the birds of the air;

they do not sow or reap or store away in barns,

and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.
